BIO
Victoria Jimenez was born 1959 in Bogotá, Colombia, where she received her BA in Graphic Design. During her time in Colombia, also studied with artist David Manzur, where she was first inspired by art. Moved to United States, she furthered her Graphic studies at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale; and at the same time she had continued associated with the art community as she continues moving in the States.
Throughout her career, and phases of life, Victoria has had the opportunity to train in different prestigious institutions on academic drawing, painting, open studios, and workshops.
Summit Art Center, New Jersey; School of Visual Arts, NYC; Art Center of South Florida, Miami Beach, Fl; Old School Square, Delray Beach, Fl and The Art Students League, NYC; where she studied Life drawing with Costa Vavagiaskis and Abstraction with Larry Poons, Paola Poons, Francine Tint and who they had inspired her to pursue art full time. Enduring covid time, virtually studied under Peter Bonner and continue to develop her artistic skills and processes, challenging her artistic identity.
Her art and unique perspective are shaped not only by her training, but the different environments, cultures and communities she has been a part of as a result of numerous relocations. Her body of work, spanning from her early gestural painting, evolving to her new work in color experimentation is a reflection of her path in search for connections.
Victoria had exhibited nationally in South Florida, New York and internationally in Canada. Her work has being awarded at Art Serve - Ft Lauderdale, Fl (first prize); ArtSlant 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th Showcase winners; Phyllis Harriman Gallery at the Art Student League - NYC
ART STATEMENT
As an abstract artist, I live in a state of exploration with the physicality of the materials, that manifests as the process of mixing colors, adding a touch that bring differing energies and a vocabulary of emotions.
It is to sketch my emotions to create a flowing lyrical abstraction with the deeper intention to find connections to a higher and authentic self.
Motivated by color I make abstract lyrical paintings.
I sketch my emotions with gestural marks; while I feel that sense of freedom I reconnect with my memories to percept the delicate pass of the moment of that presence; forms a gestures wave and fit them-selfs to exist.
My art is rooted in authenticity witch I believe is essential to a transcendent creation. This search is for me to believe that together we represent a single fabric, interconnected and intertwined. My hope is that thought my art, other can pause and explore our connections, and find their own authentic threads embedded in our souls.
